Jakarta, 9 November 2020
The first multi-modal transport transaction under the AFAMT pilot was successfully performed between 30th October and 2nd November 2020 under the ASEAN Framework Agreement on the Facilitation of Multimodal Transport (AFAMT). The implementation of the agreement is managed by ASEAN and the ASEAN Secretariat with support from the EU- Funded ARISE Plus.
The goods, beverage coolers, were transported from Thailand to Vietnam by road and sea. After being loaded at a factory in Nava Nakorn Industrial Estate, Pathum Thani Province in Thailand, the goods were transported by road to Bangkok Port. From there they they were shipped by sea to Ho Hi Minh City, Vietnam, where they were delivered to the customer. The shipper was Carrier Commercial Refrigeration (Thailand) Limited, and the agent was Amazing Logistics and Supply Chain Company Limited.
This first transaction will be followed by a number of additional transactions between Thailand and Vietnam and vice versa, prior to operational live release of the system.
The success of the AFAMT pilot is a tribute to the national AFAMT pilot teams set up in Thailand and Vietnam. These teams consist of officers of the Ministries of Transport in Thailand and Vietnam, the freight forwarding associations TIFFA (Thai International Freight Forwarders Association) and VLA (Vietnam Logistics Business Association), and a number of multimodal transport operators (MTO).
