The training session was conducted by ARISE Plus Regional on Friday 18th February 2022 for transport officials of Lao PDR. A total of 25 participants took part in this training session, which was well received.
The participants were from the Department of Transport, Department of Rail, Civil Aviation Department, Department of Waterway Transport, Lao International Truck and Forwarder Association (LITFA)(formerly known as Lao International Freight Forwarders Association – LIFFA) and some logistics service providers.
This training session was part of the support from ARISE Plus Regional to Lao PDR to address gaps in the implementation of the National Multimodal Transport Legislative Framework. The training focussed on the establishment of the national competent body for registration of Multimodal Transport Operator’s (MTO) and the procedures for the registration of their MTOs. This intervention will assist Lao PDR in meeting the provisions of the ASEAN Framework Agreement for Multimodal Transport (AFAMT), particularly from the infrastructure and regulatory perspective.
The next training session, will address in more detail the requirements of the MTOs and the operational procedures vis-à-vis the ASEAN counterparts. The next event is scheduled to be held on 11 March 2022.
