Our Communities

The Leaders envision ASEAN as a peaceful, stable and resilient region within a global community of nations while still maintaining ASEAN centrality. ASEAN Community is envisioned as a community with enhanced capacity and capabilities to both respond effectively to challenges and to seize opportunities.

Political-Security Community

The ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) aims to ensure regional peace and a just, democratic, and harmonious environment.

Economic Community

The AEC is the realization of the region’s end goal of economic integration. It envisions ASEAN as a single market and product base, a highly competitive region, with equitable economic development, and fully integrated into the global economy.

Socio-Cultural Community

The ASEAN Socio Cultural Community is all about realising the full potential of ASEAN citizens. The ASCC Blueprint 2025 was adopted by the ASEAN Leaders at the 27th ASEAN Summit on 22 November 2015 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Cross-Sectoral Initiatives

Kuala Lumpur Declaration 2015 decided that the IAI Work Plan III and the ASEAN Connectivity 2025 adopted in 2016 shall be an integral part of the ASEAN 2025: Forging Ahead Together. In addition, to implement The ASEAN Vision 2025, other cross‐sectoral/pillar issues and its coordination should also continuously be enhanced and strengthened.

ASEAN Connectivity

Connectivity in ASEAN refers to the physical, institutional, and people-to-people linkages that can contribute towards a more competitive, inclusive, and cohesive ASEAN. Greater connectivity supports the political-security, economic, and socio-cultural pillars of an integrated ASEAN Community.

Initiative for ASEAN Integration & Narrowing Development Gap (IAI & NDG)

The Ha Noi Declaration on Narrowing the Development Gap for Closer ASEAN Integration expressed the ASEAN members’ resolve to “promote, through concerted efforts, effective cooperation and mutual assistance to narrow the development gap among ASEAN members and between ASEAN and the rest of the world,” with infrastructure, human resource development, information and communications.

ASEAN Smart Cities Network

At the 32nd ASEAN Summit on 28 April 2018 in Singapore, the ASEAN Leaders established the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN). The ASCN is a collaborative platform where cities from the ten ASEAN Member States (AMS) work towards the common goal of smart and sustainable urban development
