Jakarta, 25 October 2020
ASEAN achieved a major breakthrough in free movement of goods.
With support from ARISE Plus and the European Union, and the excellent backing of DHL Global Forwarding in Singapore and the Singapore Customs Department, a loaded truck departed from Singapore on 23 October 2020 under ACTS, and arrived safely in Thailand on 24 October 2020, passing through Malaysia in transit. At the Malaysian exit border office of Bukit Kayu Hitam the goods were changed to a Thai-registered truck, in order to respect the sanitation requirements imposed under the COVID-19 virus.
ACTS demonstrated its flexibility to cater for such conditions.
The ARISE Plus Team expresses much gratitude to Singapore Customs and Immigration & Checkpoints Authority, Royal Malaysian Customs Department, Thai Customs and other participants for this significant achievement, especially DHL Global Forwarding, City Zone Express and their partners for their commitment.
ARISE Plus looks forward to further movements in the coming days along the north-south corridor of ASEAN including Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand and the east-west corridor with Cambodia, Lao PDR and Vietnam.
