ARISE Plus organised the 3rd Capacity Building & discussion session on Risk Profiles of Pesticides used on Leafy Vegetables in ASEAN Member States 0n March 4, 2022. More than 40 ASEAN officials from Health and Agriculture institutions participated in the session.
The work on investigating risks from pesticides usage in leafy vegetables in ASEAN was undertaken upon the request of ASEAN Health Cluster 4, with the twin objectives of examining how individual ASEAN Member States carry out the evaluation of the risks and using this exercise to share knowledge and build expertise for the participating officials.
This was the third and final session of the series, and delivery was supported by two experts from the EU shared their knowledge.
The issues addressed were:
- Pesticide Residue Monitoring in an EU Member State, case study of France, explained by Florence Gerault, French Ministry of Agriculture and Food; and
- EU Annual Pesticides Summary Report, explained by Paula Medina Pastor, European Food Safety Agency.
Additionally an ASEAN representative, DR. Ngan Chai Keong from the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute, shared the progress made in the harmonisation of pesticide residues limits (MRLs) in ASEAN.
This third session concludes this programme and the ARISE Plus experts are developing a set of recommendations for ASEAN Health Cluster 4 to consider when developing an integrated and systematic approach for monitoring risks and developing risk management mechanisms.
