Workshop on Development of Maximum Limits for Food Additives and Maximum Limits for Food Contaminants was held from 4 to 6 September 2019 in Bali, Indonesia.

The objective of the workshop is to deliberate on implementation of the:

  • ASEAN Principles and Guidelines for the Establishment of Maximum Use Level for Food Additives; and;
  • ASEAN Principles and Criteria for Contaminants and Toxins in Food and Feed.

The workshop participants were expected to initiate the establishment of:

1. Maximum use levels for permitted food additives in accordance with agreed format in the ASEAN Principles and Guidelines for the Establishment of Maximum Use Level for Food Additives, and

2. Maximum permissible levels of contaminants and toxins in food and feed based on the ASEAN Principles and Criteria for Contaminants and Toxins in Food and Feed.

During the workshop, the participants deliberated on the process for establishing the maximum levels and initiate work on implementation. The first one and a half days (09.00 am, 4th September up to 12.00 noon 5th September 2019) to deliberate on the Maximum Use Level for Food Additives and the second one and a half days (0.00 pm 5th September to 5.00 pm 6th September 2019) to deliberate on the Maximum permissible levels of contaminants and toxins in food and feed.
